Beaufort North Carolina

Last evening proved as rewarding as expected. Having driven the three miles to 6th Street, we discovered another aspect of Moorehead City's waterfront, complete with charter and fishing boats and many fine seafood restaurants. On the advice of the desk manager, we chose to eat in 'The Sanitary Restaurant' ...... an unusual name, yes ..... and refers to its past commitment to remain alcohol-free (thankfully no longer the case!) rather than its standard of cleanliness (which, incidentally, is impeccable!) We sat on the wooden deck overlooking the sea and with some prompting from our server, managed to negotiate the menu. Grouper and Flounder was the order of the day and very nice it was too! On the next table sat a guy for whom nothing appeared to have been cooked to his liking, clearly a gastronome or someone full of horse-****! You can probably guess which conclusion we drew!! Before returning to the hotel we sat awhile on some wooden rocking chairs, at the invitation of a local charming couple, David and Teresa, with whom we chatted for an all too short period of time. We seemed to rub along nicely, to the extent that we readily agreed to the suggestion of meeting-up for dinner, this evening. As for today, it began and ended with the sun shining and provided us with an opportunity check-out nearby Beaufort. An historic town by the sea, Beaufort offers visitors like us an awful lot ..... it has an interesting history and through the Historical Society's excellent work, it preservers and conserves it.
The guided walking and bus tours of the town's notable houses and historic buildings, including the Apothecary, are excellent.
Beaufort is the third oldest colony in North Carolina. (The remains of Black-beard's ship were also discovered here too in the not too distant past!
Another good day and I now feel the urge for seafood and beer getting the better of my urge to write!! Before finishing today's posting, we decided that the following track by the Platters should mark our day in Beaufort.
