After a fun day in Beaufort yesterday, we met-up with Teresa and David at the local Bistro and had an excellent dinner, in even better company. Parting later that evening, we promised to call-in on them before leaving Morehead City, to look around their recently opened antiques shop. Well, this morning we 'launched' slightly later expected, for a couple of reasons. At breakfast we met a lady from Bath who has lived here for a number of years and we got chatting! Then a lady whose daughter is soon to travel to the UK, to study at Lancaster University, was keen to find out first-hand about the latter from someone who had studied there ..... me!! So, it was actually around 10:00 am when we checked-out and set off for 'the shop'. Arriving there we were immediately taken with its great location and its amazing offerings. Essentially, David and Teresa sell antiques that are themed along four lines, a major one being 'toys' ..... some of which they restore. In the window was a 1949 Austin pedal car ..... I peddled the 1952 model 'back in the day'!
David also had a chemical balance on display, which I was happy to help make function again. I guess we could have spent the whole day meandering through their Aladdin's cave ..... which is so well presented ..... recapturing childhood memories. (David said he had an original Dinky Toy in stock .... a blue car transporter, which I could have identified from thirty paces .... I had had one of those too!) Almost two hours slipped by before our leaving, at which point we told them about our good friends in Brooklyn, Pam and Keith ..... and 'Z Crackers' ..... and they very kindly gave us two pieces of memorabilia, as gifts for David and Jenny.
So, at midday, we set off for Willington on what was a quiet and uneventful drive, on a very hot day. We stopped-off at a 'Piggly Wiggly' en route! This is the name of a grocery chain and one we hadn't heard of previously. We ate in the Deli where quantity, not necessarily quality, appeared to the watchword, but our hot dogs were faultless. We picked up some provisions and continued the journey, arriving at our Best Western at 2:15 pm. Time for another laundry session! Finally, a Chuck Berry classic .......
