First impressions of Charleston were good and we haven't been disappointed, so far. Today began with grey skies and the threat of thunder storms, which didn't actually materialise. We're staying at the Holiday Inn Express, Ashley ..... a neat eight-storey hotel which is pretty busy a, but then its like they say 'never eat in an empty restaurant'! Its also conveniently placed for the Historic Downtown area and it was to there that we headed this morning. As we left the hotel it began to rain, but fortunately, it was light drizzle only and at least the temperature and humidity was manageable for a log self-guide trek around the City's historic buildings, Market, and river-front.
The Market Centre is a bustling place housing lots of neat stalls selling art, sweet grass woven baskets, and food.Charleston has a nice feel about it and doesn't exhibit the brashness of New Orleans, although many of its house are similar in character and style to those in the latter's French Quarter.
By early afternoon, the clouds retreated and the sun shone, with temperature and humidity rising .... I guess the climate here in high summer could drive you crazy! Having had little exposure to Sirrus XM today, I'm winging today's musical track with a somewhat obvious choice .... "The Charleston", by Bob Wilson and his Varsity Rhythm
Boys (not of Arsenal-goalkeeper fame!)
