Autumn mist!
Bright and sunny as we headed for early morning coffee in Santa Rosa , on Fourth Street. Then having packed the car we left on Highway 101 North, soon linking onto California 128. The 60 mile drive along the latter road is interesting, as its one of the most twisting roads I know. As we got within touching distance on Mendocino, driving through the redwood forests, we lost contact with the sun and found ourselves driving through a light autumnal mist. We reached the Hill House Inn in Mendocino at around 1:00pm and the mist was clearly in for the day.
To be fair, it made a nice change from the heat! We checked-in early and decided to walk down to the town and catch-up on familiar sights. Oddly, despite its being a small place, it took quite some time before we recognised landmarks from our previous visit.(Once we'd spotted our previous place of residence .... a house now called Didgeridoo, next to a graveyard! .... we were OK)
The Ocean was pretty tranquil as we walked down to the headland and having re-visited the local (excellent!) bakery and viewing some of towns interesting houses with their unusual water towers, we called into the local pub (once the local rectory!) and had fish'n chips ..... but have had better!!
Having now been reunited with Sirius XM 60's sounds, its appropriate to mark today's journey with a one hit wonder by The Castaways 'Liar Liar':
