Cheyenne - Echoes of the Wild West

Our day began with a Skype-session with Jenny (and cameo appearance from Rosie!).....all being well at home, we were set-up for the day! We experienced our first 'Motel Continental Breakfast' of the trip and it was kinda fun to get back to grips with the toaster and an early morning shuffle with other guests! We put a 'laundry session' on the back-burner and made a run for the car, heading for downtoun Cheyenne and a carefully selected free parking lot.
(We later discovered that contrary to warning signs that free street parking is restricted to '2 hours', anyone who overstays receives a polite note, but no fine.....are you listening Manchester!!) The Union Pacific Station building, built in the pioneering days of railway construction,is now a transport museum and it was our first stop where we bought tickets for a great trolley bus tour of Historic Downtown, an attractive district with a fascinating history.
Cheyenne had close associations with: Wyatt Earp; Doc Holiday; Butch Cassidy; Wild Bill Hickock; Bat Masterson and many more, and standing in front of the Marshall's office where Tom Horn was arrested for shooting 'Little Willy' was cool!
Trolley bus ride over, we walked to and entered the State Capitol Building where we were invited to take-in the whole building at our leisure!
Cheyenne and its 56,000 people are very welcoming......but I'm not sure that I'd relish being there in July when its annual rodeo festival attracts over three-hundred thousand visitors!! (Cheyenne also happens to be the site of an Air Force base with few aircraft......its one of America's biggest nuclear arsenals!)
Having pounded a lot of pavement we concluded our day by calling-in the Historic Plains Hotel for dinner.....which was excellent! Cheyenne is a neat place and we will take away some fond memories and maybe they have inspired the following musical choice?
