Going North!

After visiting the hotel's 'Keep Fit' room and the breakfast bar, we packed the car and drove off towards our next venue, Whitefish, in early morning sunshine. (Before leaving, we stopped for a long chat with the hotel's manageress, who came from Lytham St Annes!) We gassed-up, bought items to eat during the journey, and were soon bowling along on car-less roads immersed in fabulous mountain scenery. (Montana is a beautiful state.) We called at 'Trixies' bar and cafe for a mid-morning coffee and then hit the road again stopping only to have a quick roadside lunch at Echo Lake. Reaching Whitefish around 3:00pm, the sky was grey and we caught some rain, but we were pleasantly surprised to discover that Whitefish itself is not a small hamlet, but rather a thriving, vibrant, town. Despite the offer of a free shuttle-bus ride downtown, we decided to undertake the pleasant six-block journey on foot. In fact, it was Farmers Market Day and after wandering around this pretty 'alternative' event, we visited the town's quirky and not unattractive curio outlets, on Main Street. (Some stocked items bearing sound maxims such as "If you don't get things right first time, then sky-diving isn't for you"!) We called into the town's micro brewery and chatted with a nice girl who having undertaken an early morning run and then worked in a field all day, was drinking the local brew from a decent-sized stein! By now it was time for dinner and we opted for a bar-grill adjacent to the Brewery. It has to be said that the fish'n chips accompanied by draught IPA (or poached pear in Pat's case) was definitely 'the job'! Whitefish has surpassed expectations! Driving through this vast state today, the following track came to mind.....
