Aloha Hawaii!

Our final day in Hawaii, before going to the mainland tomorrow. Our stay on the Islands has been better than expected and we spent our last day here driving to Hilo and taking-in a short scenic coastal drive on the way.

The weather was predictably hot and the scenery as majestic as ever. Stopping for coffee at the 'Parker Ranch Mall' we took the opportunity to take the following snap which is also my 'challenge of the day':

Is it (a) Me, gone native, (b) Leon Russell ( ZZ Top) who's soon to appear on Big Island, or (c) The local Origami Master, wearing his latest creation fashioned from a Starbucks brown paper bag?! Arriving in Hilo, complete with packed lunch, we committed a faux pas by immediately making for a spot on the ocean, close to where we'd parked-up, in the Downtown area. Having seated ourselves in a good spot and opened our turkey wraps, we realised that we were situated at the vagrants end of the shoreline ..... but as we didn't bother them, they seemed happy to tolerate us!

We took a turn around Hilo's narrow streets, studded with quaint buildings that had seen better days and of a style reminiscent of towns we'd seen on the Mainland. The local cinema (of classic style) was plying 'Pacific Rim' and 'Z' ... this seemed risky, as the sound effects from either film could probably do serious damage to the building's fabric!

Concluding that we'd picked the best side of the Island to pitch camp, we headed back to it, admiring the scenery all the way. And as we say a final Aloha to the Islands, why not an appropriate piece of music (from a station that we've had to listen to for most of the day!)
