Morro to Monterey!

Following an overnight stay at the Bay View Inn, we arose still unbelieving of our good fortune. It had been out of character for us to commit to our Morro Bay bolt-hole without first researching previous Tripadvisor reviews and when we did get around to reading them, some were nothing short of 'horrendous'. Fortunately, our experience was anything but! Anyway, before leaving we decided check-out the town a little more ...... in summary, it is a real find of a place for anyone travelling from LA to Monterey and wanting to break-up the trip, to free-up some time to see the many things worth seeing en route. I trekked over the causeway to the giant Haystack rock and then we both walked the bay front, taking-in the fishing boats and the seals and pelicans who were already fishing! We met and chatted to a friendly local guy who suggested Frankie and Lola's for breakfast .... a great choice as it turned out .... the home-made rye-bread toast was the best! Keen to make the most of the day, we pulled-out of Morro mid-morning and were soon heading north on Highway 1. This is without doubt one of the most scenic road-trips in the US, the road clinging to the coastline and its soaring cliffs for the best part of one-hundred and fifty miles.

We took a time-out for coffee at Ragged Rocks and marvelled at its ocean views.

By-passing the distractions of Cambria and Hearst Castle (old haunts of a previous trip) we progressed towards Big Sur and with blue skies and a calm ocean every twist and turn of the road revealed unique and stunning scenes.

By mid-afternoon we arrived in Monterey and navigated our way to the Comfort Inn ..... an old favourite! After another memorable day I struggled to choose a musical aide memmoire for the day, especially having been immersed in classical 60's tracks, courtesy of Sirus XM. I finally decided that it had to be something readily associated with California and its remarkable ocean shoreline and lifestyle.
