Another sunny day in Shangri-La and our final chance to explore LA. Grabbing breakfast and observing how some dudes skilfully 'worked-the-room', we decided to to 'do a laundry-run' before taking-off for the Science Park. We arrived at our destination mid-morning and immediately 'bought-into' its wow-factor, being impressed both by the scale of the place and the sight of Black-Hawk spy-plane, mounted over the car park!
The museum is a full-blown interactive tool-box for kids (of all ages!) and if this doesn't convince you that Science is both interesting and relevant to your daily lives, nothing will! ... OK, enough of the sales-pitch, already! It has to be said, however, that seeing the Space Shuttle Endeavour and the contextual video footage of its transportation to the museum site was, for me, both up-lifting and memorable.
I have to confess that quite unashamedly, we took full advantage of our 'Senior Status' and purchased 'combo tickets' for the Imax 'Hubble Telescope' and 'Polar Bear' experiences .... what can I say? Anyway, I highly recommend that you go see them, if you can! Moving on, by mid-afternoon we made an executive decision to head back to the hotel, particularly as the area was filling-up with traffic and 'Trojans'! To put this in context, the latter were tail-gating fans of the local college football team, assembling for the evening kick-off. Actually, the atmosphere was fabulous and in stark contrast to a Saturday afternoon outing to Old Trafford! Maybe it helped that the LA Olympic Spirit was still very much in evidence, at this iconic venue!
Whilst retracing our steps to find our car, we met a great pair of tail-gaters 'Pam and Tony'...... who, having just breezed-in from Hawaii, had set-up camp, prior to going to the game.
We chatted for a while and could easily have spent many hours in their company. (If you guys ever get to read this blog-post ..... it was a real pleasure to meet with you both ... not least because you have great taste in cars and music!) In summary, our final LA sightseeing day was a big hit and I guess that our time here has been well spent, affording us a much better insight into this vibrant city. So music track befits today? Well, I guess it has to be one of the classics and one of which I hope Pam and Tony will approve:
