Aloha ..... So what's not to like about Hawaii?!

Well, to answer the question .... nothing! Its jaw-droppingly fabulous and we only arrived a few hours ago. However, driving from the airport along the Island's Pacific coastline and sampling the laid-back local pace (not dissimilar to key West)made for a very appealing introduction ..... we may never go home! Glossing over our exit from LA, which passed remarkably trouble-free, we arrived on Maui at 4:30 pm, having gained three-hours on West-Coast time, and we are now 11 hours behind GMT. Maui airport is incredibly chilled in comparison to its LA equivalent and we're already familiar with the customary 'Aloha' greeting. We discovered that some people are presented with lei flower garlands on arrival, but only if they are VIPs or have pre-booked a ground transfer from the airport. As neither condition applied in our case, we set off for forty-five minute drive to Lahaini in our smart white Chrysler rental, un-bedecked of flowery necklaces. We found the hotel, The Pioneer Inn, easily. The latter, a colonial style building, is really cool and overlooks the ocean, as does our balcony! Soon after arriving, we hit the ground running, calling-into the local store for vital supplies and then watched the sun setting as we dined al fresco (on great fish & chips!)at the hotel bar. Finally, we rounded-off the day by promenading around this old fishing village ...... come tourist trap! Its a very laid-back place and I for one can understand why Mick Fleetwood lives here .... who also happens to own a restaurant here! Speaking of the latter, it only seems right to feature 'Fleetwood' in today's road-music slot, not only because of the association with Maui, but also because Pam and Tony were playing a track from 'Dreams' when we bumped into them yesterday!
