A rude awakening!

After sleeping so well, it was unfortunate to wake up to the sudden and unexpected realisation that Id left my backpack, containing passports and driving licence, in the Toasted Frog! No time to hit the treadmill; just shower and worry until the establishment opened at 11:00am!! Anyway, we whiled away a couple of hours, walking Broadway and visiting the Atomic Coffee place. Then at 11:00am sharp it was time to face the music .... my bag had been handed in and all contents were accounted for, such is the honesty of the people around here. With lighter hearts, we set forth for the visitor centre in the twin city of Moorehead where we got to see the wood chipper used in  the film "Fargo" and the original screen play.

Before returning to base, we took some time out to see a recreated Norwegian church and a Viking boat, at the Hjernkornst Centre. The latter was the brainchild of a local dude who wanted to build and sail a Viking boat to Norway! Unfortunately, he couldn't undertake the journey, but the boat did!!

Its worth noting that some thirty percent of the locals (total population 120,000) are of Nordic decent and some seventy percent are of German stock. Whilst on a factual sidetrack, it might also be noteworthy that Fargo was original named Cetralia, but renamed after the founder of Wells Fargo. Also, Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens were killed in a privately hired flight to Fargo, in 1953! Downtown Fargo has been gentrified in recent years and is a great place to visit! Anyway, we spent the remainder of the afternoon having a light lunch in a local bar before walking around the historic downtown district. Very pleasant!

We then called into a (deservedly) popular ice cream parlour, enjoyed some of their output, visited the local classic cinema and dined (well!!) a the Toasted Frog!

And a musical treat, today? Why not something from Frankie Valens?! And what else, but La Bamba!!
