Hot in the City!

An unusual day weather-wise, beginning with lots of mist and the odd shower, but warm. Breakfast in Starbucks overlooking the marina and the Manhattan skyline and then a short walk to Hobokem, where the ferries operate frequently during the weeek and tickets prices are are surprisingly inexpensive for the Wall Street route. Sailing around Lower Manhattan to Pier 11, we had a great view of the World Trade Building and surrounding skyscrapers. Back on dry land we made our way up Wall Street towards the World Towers memorial, where its hard to comprehend what transpired there.

We took a look around the impressive (hedgehog-looking) transportation and shopping centre, before moving on to the Brookfield Centre. The latter is a must-see stop-off, not least for its location, impressive atrium, and fine coffee shop! Moving on, we headed west along the waterfront, through the Battery Park area, and past the Staten Island Ferry Terminal. The whole area has some very impressive garden planting. Nearing the Brooklyn Bridge, we opted for the DUMBO ferry and headed over to Brooklyn. By now, the sky had cleared and it was both hot and humid. and having crossed the Hudson River, the atmosphere was upbeat as many tourists enjoyed the waterside park and amenities.

Before doing the same, we opted for a quick drink in the neat red-and-white-striped waterside bar. Not long after, the sky greyed again and the humidity grew, suggesting that a thunder storm might soon appear. Time to make our way back to Hoboken and our the hotel. Of course, when we arrived, the sun was shining again! Finally, a musical memory by Billy Joel .... "New York State of Mind"
