Some Like it Hot!

A cloudy beginning to what quickly developed into a hot and sunny day. We set out early and drove a few blocks to Peets Coffee shop. Then we made our way to the bay side area where the aircraft carrier 'Midway' (now a floating maritime museum) is berthed.
We parked close to the sailing ship 'Star of India' and made our way, on foot, down the pier and than as far as the famous giant statue of the sailor and nurse ('Embracing Peace'), passing the memorial to Bob Hope and his support of the Armed Forces (his timing was always good!).
Turning back, we ventured several blocks downtown, past the neat railway station, and into Little Italy, where the seafood is said to be the best. Making our way back to our car we caught site of the City's Civic Central Admin Building, which is very impressive and has a style reminiscent of a building one might see in the Southwest.
It was now hot, as we drove to I5S and over the bridge to the Hotel Del Coronado, a beautiful old hotel that provided a key setting for the film 'Some Like it Hot'. We walked around its gardens and onto the white sand beach, before taking in the rest of the town.
By now, it was early afternoon and we decided to take another turn at the very scenic Point Lomas. We walked down the Tide  Pools trail, but as the tide was high, there were not tide pools to explore. Nevertheless, we saw a lot today and without needing the services of a trolley bus tour!

An odd musical choice today, but one that was played as we made our way to the big vistas offered at Point Lomas .... Duene Eddy and Rebel Rouser!
