Bar Harbour .... not before time!

We have been fortunate weather-wise and today was no exception. Leaving early, we headed south to Kennebunkport before making our way north to today's stopover, Bar Harbour. Arriving in Kennebunkport at 9:30 this picturesque New England town was already showing signs of a busy day ahead. We claimed a spot in the main car park and then had breakfast on the porch of  a neat little coffee shop, The sky was blue and the sun strong. Soon after, we meandered through the town's white clapperboard buildings, taking in the best on offer.
We had previously stayed here about fifteen years ago in late autumn, when the weather was grey and cold and today's late summer sunshine was a welcome contrast. We quickly spotted the Boathouse where we had eaten when David was with us, and later, the hotel where we had all stayed.
Before leaving this picturesque place, we drove along the short scenic coastal drive where we spotted the ocean-fronted houses that would grace Pebble Beach .... one in particular, George Bush Snr's summer residence, sitting on its own island!
Thereafter, we headed north on I95/295 for about three hours. The traffic thinned and the forest thickened, until we reached Acadia where we encountered roadworks! Nevertheless, we arrived in Bar Harbour mid-afternoon and Quimby House (where we are staying) is both very pleasant and well situated. On checking-in I discovered that we have to change rooms tomorrow and as we are staying only two nights, I wasn't best pleased ..... but it is a nice place and the accommodation is much improved on the Best Western we stayed in during our previous visit. Anyway, having settled in (to room #1!) we walked down to the waterside and made for The Fish House Grill.
The views from this eatery are fabulous but owing to a cool sea breeze, we sat in the bar area of this lively, informal. place. The crab cakes were terrific and the fish was even better!

We heard an oldie on the radio today which seems oddly befitting for our stay in Bar Harbour ... Billy Vaughn's 'Sail Along Silvery Moon'!
