Massachusetts to Maine

Saturday began with a visit to Wholefoods which prompted the GPS to send us northwards via the centre of Boston! Nice!! Anyway, we negotiated the traffic, crossed the appropriate bridge and headed through New Hampshire to Maine. Although our final destination was Portland, we took a detour to Kennebunk (the only town with this spelling, in the world) Here we ate a huge beef sandwich, previously acquired at Wholefoods ...... delicious! We took some time out to walk about this lovely town with its old churches and white clapperboard houses, some dating back to the 1700s.
In the centre is a neat communal building 'the Waterhouse' which was once a garage, but was bequeathed to the community by a philanthropic local lady. The building is now enjoyed by everyone and is used for activities as diverse as tennis, craft fairs, and ice skating! Leaving Kennebunk, we headed for Portland and found our hotel, the Ramada Plaza on Riverside Street. We took the opportunity to Skype Jenny and then do our first laundry run, before setting off for Commercial Street, Portland, for dinner. We landed upon a seafront Italian restaurant 'Solo' ........ 'Sooooo a rip off'!! Say no more!!!! Tomorrow, we go in search of the famous lighthouse! In the absence of a more appropriate piece of musical reminder of today's drive, I guess I have to choose something that I've used before which played more than once on Sirius XM, 'Do you believe in Magic' by the The Lovin Spoonful!
