Mount Washington Valley

After yesterday's showers, today's sunshine was very welcome. The early morning chill was a reminder that we are now in the mountains, but not for long, as the day soon warmed! Having called at the Front-line Coffee Shop we drove out to Cathedral Ledge for a dramatic, birds-eye, view of the Mount Washington valley, before descending to Echo Lake and walking round this tranquil lake with its sandy beach (very similar to the setting of 'On Golden Pond'!)
Next, we visited Diana's Bath, a hillside pool and waterfall, nearby and by mid-morning we were making our way to the small pleasant town of Jackson via the classic red-covered Jackson Bridge(aka The Honeymoon Bridge). We made a quick stop-off at a small deli / golf-course nineteenth-hole, for a light lunch.
Afterwards, we headed north on route 16 to Mount Washington, did a u-turn and returned to Conway, where we parked at Kearsage Inn and walked over to Conway's historic railway station to buy tickets for the 4:30pm train. (Seats in the classy ex-Pullman carriage!). There was just enough time to take in a couple of local shops ..... most notably 'Zebs General Store', named after a cross-eyed trawler captain, apparently!
Our The train trip was a blast, sitting in outward facing armchairs, we simply watched the world go by! Returning to Conway, we headed straight to the Horse Feathers for a very nice dinner!!

Despite several contenders for  today's musical memory, it simply has to be 'Rock Island Line', which plays almost continuously at the history railway station ..... but this version of Rock Island Line is by Johnny Cash!
