Farewell to the Big Apple!

Despite warnings about Hurricane Hermine, Sunday turned out to be hot and sunny. We ventured out to Starbucks, drank some coffee, took in the stunning views of the Manhattan skyline, and returned to the Doubletree for the familiar check-out routine. Without much fuss, we escaped Jersey City and  headed north to Albany, on Route 17 .....  passing Woodstock en route! The traffic was pretty heavy initially, but thinned as we moved further north. We arrived in Albany by early afternoon and checked-in to the Holiday Inn Express Downtown ..... first signs, encouraging! We ventured out into the Downtown area of the State capital and were struck by three things: nice architecture, cleanliness, and nowhere was open! Yes, it was Labour Day weekend, but seriously ...... people have to eat!!
At long last we found a Belgian-themed bar and managed to get some passable fish'n chips. Walking back to our hotel along Pearl Street, we passed the long-since closed Kennington Hotel. What happened?! This hotel was once frequented by Frank Sinatra, the Dorsey Brothers, and Babe Ruth!! Albany is a mystery to be solved!! But for now, a piece of music from the past ..... Crosby Stills and Nash 'Sweet Judy Blue Eyes'!
