A really bright Spring morning set the scene for our walk into Talkeetna, enjoying fantastic views of Mt. McKinley. Nobody around, we had coffee in the small general store and chatted to the local boat tour operator, a really genuine guy and a true pioneer, who relocated from Michigan back in the 70's echoing the spirit of the 59'rs before him. By mid-morning we were packed and ready to leave for the easy drive to Wassila and a quick side-trip to Eklutna and its fascinating Russian church and cemetery. We found our hotel and were knocked out to discover that its a new-build situated on Lake Lucille. Our room boasts a balcony and a view over the lake that is the perfect landscape! Some adjoining private houses have docks with seaplanes....five doors down, well that's Sarah Pallin's house! (She used to be Mayor of Wassila.) Things are quite a bit busier down here and tomorrow we're off to Anchorage for a couple of nights....a taste of city life again!! (Fingers crossed for the 'Reds'!!) As for my chosen piece of music today, I've gone for a track from a great album that we played earlier.....
