A snake in the grass!
Well actually there were two on a gravel path!....but more of that later. It was glorious this morning as I took an early morning constitutional on the beach and headed for town...if I had to rename this place, I'd plump for "Dudesville", its so laid-back! Having returned to base the "Impala" was fired-up and we headed for Tillamook....the cheese capital of Oregon and apparently home to the best medium Cheddar in the world. (Is that claim a bit like winning the World Series?!) Anyway, Tillamook is certainly where the Scenic Three-Capes-Drive begins and that's where we joined it. We took our time driving between locations as each turn presented a new view, each more spectacular than the last. This coastline simply defies description! We had a picnic at Cape Lookout Park where the waves rolled-in and the surrounding rain forest showed every shade of 'green'. (You can see why we like travelling out of season!) Lots of wildlife around too....birds with incredible blue plumage and two snakes sunning themselves where we happened to be walking, sending them slipping into the undergrowth! Later, we moved on via Oceanside to Cape Meares Park...primarily to see the lighthouse (the smallest among the coastline "Sentinels") but how spectacular were the ocean views that greeted us!! Tomorrow we move on again, but Cannon Beach is a fabulous place to be. Today, I just had to pick the following track because it played on the radio en route and it sums-up the mood of the day......
