Clockwise!

An amazing day when almost everything fell into place! A sun-filled morning saw us on the move before 8:00am, striding out to catch an early train for Boston. I previously commented (tongue-in-cheek) about the 'quaintness' of the customs and procedures of train-travel here (a theme picked-up in Hugh's comments) but I found the method for paying for station car-parking equally bemusing....look at the photo and make-up your own mind!

The journey was pleasant and we drew into Boston South Station right on cue. Having walked to the fabulous Waterfront, so much improved following completion of the 'Big Dig' traffic improvement project (following which, traffic previously crossing the city on the old overhead I93, now flows noiselessly under-ground) we faced our only disappointment of the day......the whale-watch boat trip had been cancelled, owing to high and choppy waters outside the confines of the harbour.

Undeterred, we completed the harbour walk and then decided to go to Harvard on the T-line. The train connections were spot-on and we arrived with only minutes to spare before the start of a tour of the fabulous University campus.....our guide, a young Texan lady and Harvard Sophmore, was both interesting and really entertaining!

Then we walked around Cambridge, marvelling at the truly magnificent and historic houses on Brattle Street, and took-in the Charles River walk and spotted famous Harvard Rowing Club boathouses. (I can now confidently drop into future conversations that I "went to Harvard and Cambridge!!) Sensing that the 'shoe and pavement' had had more than enough contact for one day, it was back to base and "It Ain't Legal" for dinner!! (Note to Ken....I took the following photo outside one of the rival chain's restaurants, at Boston's Waterfront.....and I'm still trying to forget some of our team's recent antics! Maybe today's Mall-inspired music link sums it up!!)
