On the Road Again...........
Our road-trip really began today....picking-up the car we'lucked-out' with a Dodge Charger....a 3.5L 'full-size' with a really positive feel....unlike some of our previous hire cars which had the feel of hyperactive three-seater settees! We negotiated Chicago Downtown without a hitch and were soon heading east on the I80/90 East, re-visiting parts of the mid-west that don't feature in the usual tourist itinerary. Exiting Illinois for Indiana, we soon met areas of industrial devastation such as Gary (home to the Jacksons) and South Bend, which echoed descriptions in the contemporary classic "American Rust". But they were interspersed with the deeply contrasting 'Indiana Dunes National Park', 'Amish country', and vast flat farmland areas. (Incidentally, South Bend is also 'home' to Studebaker cars, which to men of a certain age will bring back fond memories of their childhood....or ought to!!) Leaving Indiana and a host of toll stations we joined the Ohio Turnpike and hurtled ever-further eastward, eventually stopping at the unlikely mini-tourist centre of Sandusky, having travelled around three-hundred miles (and using $35's worth of gas!!) I got to sample draught 'Sam Adams' and 'Great Lakes' beers with dinner and I'm pleased to say that both were 'up to scratch!'

Hi Pat and Bill. Thanks for the Pics they bring back the memories. Isn't the Vietnam War Memorial fascinating in it's conception.
