A balmy Monday evening translated into a maelstrom and a tornado warning by Tuesday morning! But no problem.....we sought refuge in the Capital's endless cultural gems. First, the State Capital Building and the Library of Congress where we were given two fabulous tours alongside other tourists, and schoolchildren from virtually every US state.....who were there to discover the founding principle of US democracy "From the many, comes unity"!
Afterwards, we visited some of the many Smithsonian museums where we saw a mind-boggling array of treasures, ranging from the Hope Diamond to Charles Lindbergh's aeroplane "Spirit of St Louis"! Feet aching we returned to base for dinner, a beer, and planning the next leg of our journey.....'Philadelphia'!!
