Today was mainly a driving day as we headed Northeast along Highway 99 towards Sacramento and beyond, to Nevada City. Although we'd passed through this way before, we thought we'd take some time out on this trip, to explore the Nevada City area. Initially, the day got off to a bad start, as the GPS refused to boot up! Fortunately, we had a back-up system which we employed until we called into a MacDonald's, two hours later, and Googled a solution. The traffic was surprisingly heavy, but we made good progress and arrived at the Harmony Ridge Hotel, at 2:pm.
The Harmony Ridge was full of surprises. First, it was the venue for a wedding party and our arrival, as non-guests, came as quite a surprise to Jill, at Reception. Unflustered, she sorted matters out and showed us to our fabulous 'tree-house' like room. No TV, but as the quality of programming is usually poor, the size and ambiance of the room more than made up for that. The hotel itself is set amid a forest and is very picturesque.
Whilst Housekeeping finished cleaning the room, we took off to the nearby Roadehouse for a drink ...... which never happened because we got talking to some couples, for an age. One lady among the group hailed from Liverpool and had sung with Supertramp, back in the day!
As usual, our journey was filled with scenery and sounds and today "California Sun" by the Rivieras seems appropriate!
