On Monday evening, we set out on foot for dinner at the nearby Roadhouse, only to find that it was closed, so it was off to Downtown Nevada City. Having parked the car, we asked a local couple where we should eat and they pointed us to the 'Three Forks' and bigged it up! We followed them towards this joint and were slightly surprised to see them go into 'Friar Tuck's'! But on we went. The Three Forks turned out to be a lively place with a youthful vibe and where it would be difficult to feel under dressed. The theme of the Three Forks is 'artisan baker meets craft brewer' nothing wrong with that! Patrons order food and drink from the counter, grab a table, and the food is then delivered. I was slightly puzzled that Pat's lemonade was red and frothy and had apparently been imbued with hibiscus, but apparently it tasted fine. The beef sandwiches we ordered were really good although the accompanying salads confirmed that, on occasion, 'less is more'! After another restful night we went breakfast and found ourselves accompanied by two very nice young ladies who lived in the area. We discussed our mutual travels amongst other things and discovered that they aspired to own a boutique style bead and breakfast of their own, but currently they owned and operated a cannabis farm. Who knew?! We said our goodbyes and began the next phase of our journey. First, we spent some time exploring the Historic Nevada City District. another interesting city that owes its existence to gold mining.
Around midday we set out on Highway 20 W and I 80, to Sacramento. We checked into the Vagabond Inn and then went exploring the new Doco centre, with its new Kings Basketball Stadium, and Historic Old Town, on foot.
We learnt about Johann Stutter and his famous fort, and how Sacramento became the origin of the Western United States. Sacramento was to become the western beginning of the Trans Pacific Railway and the discovery of gold was the magnet for people form around the globe. Whilst meandering, we discovered 'Get Sauced', our kind of Sports Brew Pub, complete with its own axe throwing area!
And without much ado, today's musical reminder is by the Who ..... "I can see for miles"
