With no fitness room on hand, I took a walk around Mariposa's Main Street this morning. It wasn't a long walk! After breakfast we bought a picnic and I gassed the car up at the "Grizzly Gas Station"! We then set off for nearby Yosemite National Park. The drive was easy and the scenery picturesque, with lots of pine forest along the way. The queue at the park entrance was quite manageable and we were soon 'in' and driving through thirty five miles of scenic views, to the Valley Visitor Centre.
Once there, we were amazed at the sheer number of cars already parked. We were on the verge of giving up when we found a space on Meadow Avenue. We took off, picnic in hand, through the forest trails. We were soon sitting on a solid log bench having our lunch, al fresco, facing the magnificent Yosemite Falls. Its difficult to appreciate its scale from the Valley floor, but an Ansell Adams photograph shows that at its top, whole trees are trapped against the massive rocks that sit there.
From here we went to Yosemite Village and watched a film about John Muir's contribution to the founding of Yosemite, as a national Park. Its a 'must do' place to visit, even when the valley river bed is almost dry!
Another day of golden oldies, including this by Frankie Lyman
