Hitting the freedom trail......

Glorious sunshine made our last morning in Washington memorable. Setting off early we walked from the Waterfront to the Jefferson and Lincoln Memorials and also visited those dedicated to World War II and the Vietnam War......the latter being very poignant.

Midday and we were reunited with our travel machine and ready for 'off'. Pulling free of the gravitational pull of the Capitol and headed north on the I95 (bound for Philadelphia)....we often enjoyed five lanes of closely packed traffic. Nearing 'Phili' we were immediately struck by its 'lived-in' look! But once at our hotel we were reminded not to judge a book by its cover!! Driving the narrow 'downtown' streets is an art form and it was with a mixture of panic and relief that we finally watched our car vanish via a parking lot elevator, for storage!! Our hotel (The Radisson) is fabulous and ideally placed to see all that's worth seeing here! The streets are packed with theatres, shops and other interesting nooks and crannies! A quick sortie on foot, to get our bearings, and we were were soon back in the hotel's Tavern Bar, enjoying fish'n chips and real (Yeungling) ale! (For the record, Pat had a glass of white wine!!) Oh yes, a great result for the 'Reds'too!!!!

  2. Nice pics. The figures in the Korean Veterans Garden are very lifelike. It's America's forgotten war, but with almost as many fatalities as Vietnam (33,000 compared with 47,000). I have a friend whose late husband was a Korean War vet. He wasn't exactly bitter, more upset that his buddies' contributions had been overlooked. Different times I guess.
